Tuesday Tunes (Cosmic Slop)

I was never a fan of George Clinton and Funkadelic until I heard this song about a decade ago. Dig Eddie Hazel‘s guitar part, and get a taste of where Hendrix was headed if he had lived!

Amazing, wonderful stuff!

  1. Rev. Palmer would not approve. What does this have to do with the South, Reformation, or anything worth while. George Clinton & his ilk are known druggies, fornicators, adulterers, slanderers, and against everything Southern & Reformed.

  2. On the other hand, great stuff!!! Thankfully Rev Palmer is happy in heaven, and not a bit worried about his namesake’s taste in music, and it is left to those of us on earth today who must determine what best reaches this generation. And that just may include “Cosmic Slop…”

Remember in Jesus’ day one of the biggest complaints about Him was that He was too busy with the sinners. Also you do not need to fornicate just because George Clinton does–if he does. Nor did Jesus have to create the ever-persistent rumor, even today, that He and St Mary Magdalene had it going on. He could have avoided her, rebuked her when she (assuming it was she) washed His holy feet and prevented that whole misunderstanding from starting. He didn’t.

It is not the company we keep. When Proverbs tells us to avoid bad company it does not mean that, or Jesus was disobedient and I do not think He was. It is how we keep the company that matters. Mixing with the world is not the problem. Mixing with us Yanks is not the problem either BTW, speaking of slander…ahhhhemmm. It is how we mix that God looks at. Nothing else.

As to creative music on an amazing level being part of culture and being worthwhile, I think it is. Even if it isn’t what great -grandma would have boogied to, had she boogied that is. We miss the point if we are so busy separating ourselves from the world that we allow nothing that pleases the senses for fear that it is somehow “sinful.”

Anyway that is my take. Rock on Palmer of the 21st…:)

"I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naïve." (Romans 16:17-18) Please read "The Comments Policy."
